While we’ve got good capacity of fresh water on board of Cool Change (2 x 400 Litre), we do not have a water-maker installed yet. And when we go on extended cruising with Cool Change, our otherwise superb Techna toilets use up a lot of that precious fresh water. Therefore we’ve decided to have a switch and pump installed that enables us to switch to salt water operations in times when we want to conserve our precious fresh water supply. This new option now lets us have the benefit of non-smelly toilets while still going on extended cruises without the need of a water-maker just yet. Any comments on the subject would be much appreciated! |

I am in the same situation and having problems changing to salt water. Have you changed your system and if so was it reasonable easy to do?

Thank-you for that, I guess what i ment to say was is it working OK. We were thinking of the same put were a bit concerned with cross contamination and the fact I have to put another hole in the boat yuk. But the price of watermakers are fairly yuk as well.

It works very well! Re cross contamination: there is little chance of it because the freshwater side of the 3way valve shuts closed when switching to salt water. When back in port, we switch back to fresh water and flush the toilet(s) a few times to ensure any remaining saltwater is removed from the short length of piping from valve to toilet.
